A graduate of Harvard at the age of twenty, he acquired an early training in architecture in the office of the late Henry Hobson Richardson
Mr. Clark was active how¬ever for only a brief period, closing his office in 1880 to become Professor of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and remained a member of the faculty eight years. He also wrote and published a number ot books on architectural subjects, of which the best known were, "The Architect Owner and Builder before the Law"; “Rural School Architecture"; and Building Superintendence“.
Mr. Clark is probably better remembered as Editor of the "American Architect and Building News" published in Boston, a position he held from I888 until the time of his decease.
During his varied career he remained an active member of the Boston Society of Architects, A.I.A., and served as secretary four consecutive years. At the time of his decease he was Chairman of the A.I.A. Committee on Muncipal Improvements.
