His third novel, West of Liberty, was published in October 2013 by Albert Bonniers Förlag. The book is the first in a series of political thrillers featuring former Stasi agent and Central Intelligence Agency freelancer Ludwig Licht. The series explores the harsh realities of today"s international political landscape.
The Ludwig Licht series has been sold to a number of countries, including Germany, Poland, The Netherlands, Russia, The Czechoslovakian Republic and Greece.
South of Hell was published in August 2014. lieutenant takes place in rural Pennsylvania, as well as Washington, District of Columbia. lieutenant was nominated for the Best Swedish Suspense Novel of the Year Award.
The third installment, North of Paradise, was published in October 2015. The setting, this time, is southern Florida and Cuba.
In 2016, the series will conclude with East of Armageddon, taking place in Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Georgia.
An award-winning columnist, Thomas Engström writes about international politics and culture in the news daily Expressen, as well as the news weekly Fokus and the monthly magazine Axess (for some years, he also wrote for Svenska Dagbladet). He has a law degree from Lund University, including studies at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights. In the fall of 2009, Engström co-authored a pan-European Anthology on the state of European democracy, twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall – an assignment commissioned by the Danish Foreign Office.
