In 1996 Thomas was appointed at San Francisco State University as an instructor. From 1997 to 2010 he was an assistant professor and professor in the Department of History at Central Washington University. Early in his career he worked as an engineer at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station and as a reactor test engineer on Los Angeles class submarines. Wellock also was an editor of Internet discussion lists, including H-net, H-Pol, and H-California and member of City of Ellensburg’s Environmental Commission. Nowadays he is historian for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Thomas Wellock has published two books. His most recent book Preserving the Nation: The Conservation and Environmental Movements, 1870-2000, was published in 2007.
Thomas Wellock is a member of the American Historical Association, Organization of American Historians and Society for Environmental History.
Thomas Wellock is married to Pamela Fleyse, a dental hygienist and teacher. The couple has two children - Angela Marie and Thomas Arthur.
