Superintendent Muncie schools, 1860-1881. Captain and major 8th Indiana infantry, 1361-1363. Colonel 117th Indiana infantry, 1863-1864.

Colonel 140th Indiana infantry, 1864-1865. Brevetted brigadier general March 13, 1865. United States consul, St. Thomas, West Indies, 1870-1875.

Supervisor Internal Revenue, 1875-1876. 2d assistant postmaster-general, 1876-1881. Home: Colonial Beach, Va.
