1989
Tim McInnerny was born on 18th September 1956, in Cheadle Hulme, in Cheshire, England, to William Ronald McInnerny and Mary Joan. He is an older brother of actress Lizzy McInnerny.
Tim McInnerny received his primary education at Marling School. He studied English at Wadham College, Oxford, graduated in 1976 after taking a gap year backpacking around the world.
Tim McInnerny began his film career with the 1985 British mystery drama film ‘Wetherby’, which was directed by playwright David Hare. The film was made on a budget of $1.1 million and earned around $1.3 million. It starred actors such as Vanessa Redgrave, Ian Holm and Judi Dench.
Tim McInnerny’s first role on television was of Lord Percy Percy in ‘The Black Adder’, the first part of ‘Blackadder,’ a series of British sitcoms. It was about the unfavored second son of King Richard IV, named Edmund, who makes several attempts to improve his standing with his father, and later tries to overthrow him.
In 1985, he was seen in the political thriller sci-fiction series ‘Edge of Darkness’. The next year, he appeared in the TV film ‘Anastasia: The mystery of Anna’, which was released in two parts. The same year, he appeared in ‘Blackadder II’, the second part of ‘Blackadder,’ wherein he reprised his role of Lord Percy Percy.
He then appeared in one episode of ‘Blackadder the Third’. In 1989, he appeared in the fourth and last part of ‘Blackadder,’ which was titled ‘Blackadder Goes Forth’. He also appeared in the short film ‘Blackadder: Back and Forth’.
In 1989, he played the supporting role of Sven the Berserk in the British comedy fantasy film ‘Erik the Viking’. The film was directed by Terry Jones. In 1995, he portrayed Sir William Catesby in the British drama film ‘Richard III’. It was adapted from Shakespeare’s play of the same name. His next film ‘101 Dalmatians’ was a huge success commercially. Directed by Stephen Herek, the film earned more than $300 million on a budget of $75 million. The reviews were mixed. The film was criticized by animal rights activists as ill-prepared people started buying the Dalmatian breed of dogs and eventually surrendered the animals to be euthanized.
His next films, ‘FairyTale: A True Story’ (1997) and ‘Rogue Trader’ (1999), didn’t turn out to be successful. In 1999, he was seen in another film ‘Notting Hill’, which was directed by Roger Michell. The film was a huge success commercially and was also appreciated by critics. In 2000, he appeared in ‘102 Dalmatians’, which is the sequel to ‘101 Dalmatians’. It wasn’t as successful commercially as its prequel. The film was met with negative reviews. However, it won an Oscar nomination in the ‘Best Costume Design’ category.
In 2001, he appeared in the British historical drama film ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’. It was adapted from Simon Leys’ novel named ‘The Death of Napoleon’. The film was directed by Alan Taylor. He appeared in many films over the next years, including ‘Casanova’ (2005), ‘Severance’ (2006), ‘Johnny English Reborn’ (2011), ‘Automata’ (2014), ‘Eddie the Eagle’ (2016), and ‘Peterloo’ (2018).
In 2000, he lent his voice to the animated TV film ‘The Miracle Maker’, which was about the life of Jesus Christ. He appeared in several TV programs over the next two decades, including the British miniseries ‘The Line of Beauty’ (2006), the British crime drama series ‘Hustle’ (2009), the TV film ‘Castles in the Sky’ (2014), and the miniseries ‘National Treasure’ (2016). In 2016 and 2017, he also had a guest role in four episodes of the popular fantasy series ‘Game of Thrones’. His most recent works on television are the TV series ‘Strangers’ (2018) and ‘The Trial of Christine Keeler’ (2020). His most recent films are ‘Killers Anonymous’ and ‘The Aeronauts’. The former received mostly negative reviews, while the latter was met with mostly mixed reviews. Tim McInnerny acted in a radio drama called ‘Headlong’ in 2013.
He is also known for his work in theatre and has appeared in many plays such as ‘The Misanthrope’ and ‘The Caretaker’.
Tim McInnerny gained popularity for his work in ‘Blackadder’, a series of multiple British sitcoms. ’Blackadder,’ which is a series of pseudo-historical British sitcoms, is undoubtedly the most popular and significant work of Tim McInnerny’s career. He appeared in all four parts of the sitcom, as well as in the 1999 short film. The film is ranked at the sixteenth position in the “100 Greatest British TV Programs” list of 2000. It has been ranked as the 9th best TV show of all time by the ‘Empire Magazine.’
Tim McInnerny has appeared in many films throughout his career. One of his successful films is ‘Notting Hill’, a 1999 romantic comedy directed by Roger Michell. The film was a huge success commercially, earning $364 million on a budget of just $42 million. The film was praised by critics.
