Toby Falk was bom in Warminster, Wiltshire, England into a family that patronized the arts.
Toby was educated at Rugby and King’s College in Cambridge, England.
Toby started work as a porter at Sotheby’s in 1964. He eventually transferred to the book department and catalogued works sold to some of the World’s greatest art collectors. He wrote Qajar Paint a history of 18th- and 19th-century Persian portrait paintings, and with Mildred Archer, catalogued toe collection of Indian miniatures in Great Britain’s India Office.
The book from the endeavor, Indian Miniatures in the India Office Library in 1981, established his reputation as a leading art scholar. In 1989, Ealk again teamed up with Archer for India Revealed, a hook compiled from documents and the collection of William and James Fraser, who collected British sponsored Indian art. His other works include, as a contributor, Paintings from Mughal India in 1979 and, as editor, Treasures of Islam in 1986.
