John Davies received a diploma in creative photography in 1974 from Trent Polytechnic (now Nottingham Trent University), Nottingham, England.
John Davies was a photography lecturer at Blackpool College of Art since 1978, he was a photographer at Sotheby's, Belgravia, London, in 1976. He joined the Visual Arts Committee at North West Arts in 1979. In 1981, John Davies won a one-year photography fellowship at Sheffield Polytechnic, and he became senior research fellow at the Art School of University of Wales Cardiff (UWIC) in 1995.
