Toin Shionoya studied at the Shoheiko (the Shogunate college), under Kodo Matsuzaki.
Career
Toin Shionoya was reputed as the best writer of Chinese. He was appointed a Shogunate's jukan (scholar of Confucian learning) (1862). He was also an adviser to Tadakuni Mizuno, Lord of Hamamatsu.
