Became assistant professor at Tokyo Higher Normal School (1929) and later at Tokyo University of Literature & Science. Received a doctorate in science (1938). Promoted to professor at Tokyo University of Literature & Science (1940) and continued in same capacity after the university was transformed into Tokyo Educational University. Held additional posts of trustee of Japan Botanical Society and Japan Biochemistry Society.
