Toson Kawai lived a reckless life during his first 50 years and came to be known as a drunken rake to the misery of his rich parents.But after coming under the influence of Ansai Yamazaki, a scholar, he suddenly changed his whole manner of life. He began studying the classics, gave up drinking and began repenting for his previous misbehavior.
