Career
Trinidad was very young when she first appeared on stage. In 1983 she won “Danskin”
contest held in Barcelona. In 1984 at the age of fifteen she joined the
National Classic Ballet of Spain, where she played many leading roles in such
ballets as “Don Quixote”, “Le Corsaire”, “Serenade” and “Lilac Garden”.
In April 1985 she was invited to the Civic Opera House in Chicago, and the same
year in June she danced with London Festival Ballet. This company noted her
excellent performance in “Giselle”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “The Nutcracker”, “La
Bayadère”, choreography by Natalia Makarova “Swan lake”, “Drop Your Pearls and Hog it, Girl” by Michael
Clark, and “Three Preludes” by Ben Stevenson. Sevillano worked with such choreographers as Christopher Bruce,
Lindsay Kemp, Kevin Hagen and performed in such ballets as “Coppelia”,
“Napoli”, “Etudes”, “Apolo”, “Symphony in C” by Balanchine, “L'Arlésienne” by Roland
Petit and “Eugine Onegin” by Cranko.
In 1988 she was invited by The National Ballet Theater of Puerto Rico to dance in “Giselle”,
The Cuban National Ballet and the Caracas National Theatre where she performed
the title role in the choreography “George Sand” (1988) by Vicente Nebrada. In
Northern Ballet theatre Trinidad performed in “Lippizzaner” created by Gillian
Lynne.
Once back in Spain, she premiered the role of Doña Inés in “Don Juan” (1989) by José
Antonio Ruiz, together with the Spanish National Ballet, where she also made an
impression with her role in “Tirana” and “La Andaluza”. Trinidad Sevillano also
danced with Patrick Armand in the ballet by Gerard Bodhot devoted to the life
of Mahler.
Between 1988 and 1996 she was the principal ballet dancer in Boston Ballet performing
in “Tema y Variaciones”,” Who Cares” and “Alegro Brillante” by George Ballanchine,
“In the Upper Room” by Twyla Tharp, Fernando Bujones’s version of “Raymunda”,
“The moon again” by choreographer Daniel
Pelzic, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Don Quixote”, “Giselle”, “Swan lake” “Scheherazade”
and “The Cinderella”.
The ballerina was invited by the Australian Ballet to perform in "Romeo and Juliet"
by John Cranko and "The Nutcracker" by Graeme Murphy.
Together with Maximiliano Guerra Trinidad Sevillano played "Romeo
and Juliet" by Kenneth Macmillan in Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. At the
Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg she danced in "Paquita".
Trinidad worked with the company of José Antonio Ruiz who created for her roles in “La Tirana”
(1996) and “La Andaluza”(1996), as well
as with Compañía Metros participating in the premiere of “Frontera” (“The
Garden of Screams”) (1999) by Ramon Oller.
In the year 2000 she joined the Madrid Regional Ballet, directed by Víctor Ullate, where
she has performed the works of her favourite composers such as Chopin,
Tchaikovsky and Wagner.
Nowadays Sevillano also works as a visiting professor around the world.
