Truman Boardman was born in that part of the Town of Ovid, in Seneca County, New York, which was separated in 1817 as the Town of Covert. He was elected Supervisor of the Town of Covert in 1849, 1851 and 1852. In 1863, he removed to Trumansburg, New New York
He was a member of the New York State Senate (26th Doctorate) in 1858 and 1859. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (Tompkins Company) in 1881.
