Ujimasa Hojo was born in 1538. He was the eldest son of Ujiyasu.
In 1568, he and his father brought the Kanto district under their con¬trol by defeating the forces of Yoshihiro Satomi at Konodai (Chiba Prefecture). They also defeated Shingen Takeda and Yoshishige Satake. In 1573, he turned over his fief to his son, Ujinao. Siding Vvith Nobunaga Oda and Ieyasu Tokugawa, he destroyed the Takeda family, the master of Kai Province. After Hideyoshi Toyotomi became powerful, he ordered Ujimasa to come to pledge loyalty. Ljimasa declined it and the Odawara Battle ensued. The Hojos, fort after fort was reduced by the Toyotomi forces and Ujimasa and his brother, Ujiteru, killed themselves in Odawara Castle. Although Ujimasa was considered by many as a mediocre man whose procrastination brought about the fall of Odawara, he was a distinguished warlord who loved learning.
