Ummu Ochi was a physician. He was well versed in Confucian literature.
Ummu Ochi was born in 1686.
Like his father, Heian, he was a physician of the Tokugawa Shogunate. His grandfather, Shorin, had been given a large number of books brought from Korea by Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Ummu added rare books to his collection which he bought and called it the Shimmon Library.
