Vadim Fedorovich Makeev studied at the secondary art school at Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov (now Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov) (1952-1958).
During the holidays, Vadim Fedorovich repeatedly visited his father’s homeland in Rossosh, Voronezh Region. In 1959-1966, 12 exhibitions of his work were organized in Moscow. Makeev's solo exhibitions were also held in Rossosh (1956, 1966) and the Voronezh Regional Museum of Fine Arts (1963).
In the creative heritage of Makeev - about 500 works: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, illustrations for the literary works of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol, Alexei Gorky, Nikolai Alekseevich Ostrovsky. He worked in the technique of oil painting, watercolors, drawings, ink and pencil.
