Valentin Andreevich Prokhorov graduated from the secondary school in the village Nikolskaya in 1942.
Since 1947 Valentin Andreevich lived in Voronezh. He worked for the newspaper of the Voronezh Military District. Since 1958 he was an editor of the Department of Information at Voronezh Radio. From the mid-1950s, he published articles in regional newspapers about the origin of the names and the history of the foundation of the Voronezh villages. In the book "The Whole Voronezh Land" (Voronezh, 1973) he presented information about 1,100 locations in the Voronezh Region. In close cooperation with the regional ethnographers, he prepared the collection "Cities of the Voronezh Region" (Voronezh, 1978), in which he was the author of four essays. The book "Inscription on the map (Voronezh, 1977) includes information on the history of populated areas in five regions of the Central Black Soil Region. The book by Prokhorov "Lipetsk toponymy" (Voronezh, 1981) was written in the form of historical and geographical words.
