In 1961 Valery Ryabtsev graduated from Tomsk State University with a degree in economics. In 1965-1966 he was postgraduate student of the Department of General Theory of Statistics of the Moscow Institute of Economics and Statistics.
In 1980 Valery Ryabtsev defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences in the specialty "Statistics".
Valery Ryabtsev began his labor and creative activity in 1961 as an assistant to the Department of Industrial Economics of Tomsk State University. After graduating from the graduate school and defending his candidate dissertation, he moved to Samara, where he worked at the Samara State Economic Academy as a senior lecturer in the Department of Statistics (since 1967), as an associate professor (since 1970) and as a head of the department of statistics (since 1975).
Since 1989 he is a professor. In 1992-1994 he was the director of the Research Institute of Economic Problems of the Region (concurrently).
Currently engaged in research in the field of improving the methodology of regional statistics and regional statistical analysis, statistical modeling of socio-economic phenomena, information and methodological support of regional self-government, studying topical issues in the economy of the transition period, the patterns of formation of ownership forms and new forms of economic relations, comparative evaluation of their effectiveness, the development of a balance of financial resources of the regions and evaluation investment attractiveness of facilities.
Valery Ryabtsev is married and has two daughters.
