Valery Ivanovich graduated from the Radio Engineering Faculty of the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute in 1957. He was the Candidate of Engineering Sciences (1974).
Valery Ivanovich was the engineer of of the Voronezh Research Institute of Communications (1959-1961), employee of the Semiconductor Mechanical Engineering NPO "Electronics" Research Institute, (1961-1995).
He was an Associate Professor of the Voronezh State Technical University (since 1995). He was the author of 10 books, including: "Monuments of Voronezh and Voronezh Region" (Voronezh, 1979), "Memorial Plates of Voronezh" (Voronezh, 1984), "Monuments of A.S. Pushkin" (Voronezh, 1999)," Voronezh: History of the city in monuments and memorial plaques" (Voronezh, 2005), several guidebooks about Voronezh and brochures on the monuments of the city.
Valery Ivanovich Kononov was a Board member of the Voronezh Historical and Cultural Society, the city commission for the historical and cultural heritage, the regional expert council for the protection of historical and cultural monuments. Chairman of the club "Pushkin’s Friends" (since 2006).
