Vasant Ramji Khanolkar has studied Medicine in University of London and obtained Doctor of Medicine in Pathology in 1923. He has joined as Professor of Pathology in Grants Medical and Seth G.S. Medical Colleges.
Vasant Ramji Khanolkar was also closely associated with the Tata Memorial Hospital and served as director of laboratories and research. Government of India appointed him a national research professor of medicine which was held for ten years. He helped to organize the Indian Cancer Research Centre and served as director from its inception until 1973.
Vasant Ramji Khanolkar was founder President of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists. Dr. Khanolkar has published 3 books on cancer and leprosy and more than 100 scientific papers.
He was a member of Pathological Society (U. K.), Society of Biological Chemists (Past-President), American Association of Cancer Research (Honorary), International Cancer Research Commission (Past-President), Indian Association of Pathologists (Past-President), Institute of Biology (London), International Union against Cancer (Past-President), New York Academy of Sciences (Honorary), International Academy of Pathology, Austrian Cancer Society (Honorary), Academy of Medical Sciences (U.S.S.R.), Indian Society for study of Reproduction (President), Indian Academy of Medical Sciences (Chairman), Indian Science Congress Association (President, Medical & Veterinary Section, 1952), Biological and Medical Advisory Committee of Government of India (Chairman) & various committees of C. S. I. R., W. H. O. & Planning Commission.
