Vasiliy BRAYTSEV, USSR Surgeon. Professor 1919; Doctor of Medicine Science since 1910; full member, USSR Academy of Medical Science, since 1945; Head, 1st Chair of Clinical Surgery, Central Postgraduate Medicine Institute, since 1924; Honoured Worker of Science Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 1945. Member, Communist Party, since 1943.
Education
1906 graduate Med Faculty, Moscow University, summa cum laude.
Career
After graduate worked as intern in Moscow University clinics under such leading specialists as P. I. D’yakonov and A. V. Martynov. 1911-1920 assistant professor, then associate professor Hospital Surgery Clinic, Moscow University. From 1919 head. Chair of Operative Surgery, from 1920 head, Chair of Faculty Surgery, Clinic of Moscow Higher Med School.
From 1924 sci director, Surgical Department, Semashko Centr Clinical Hospital, USSR Ministry of Communications. 1937-1964 simultaneously head. Chair of Clinical Surgery, Centr Institute of Postgraduate Med Training, Moscow.
During World War 2 ran a hospital in Moscow. 1946-1947 chief surgeon, USSR Ministry of Health. Delivered papers at surgical congresses and conferences of medical soc.
Superv ised writing of over 30 doctor’s theses. Three times deputy chairman. then chairman, Honorary member and Honorary chairman Moscow and Moscow Oblast Surgical Social. Honorary member, All-Union Soviet of Surgeons and Belorussian Surgical Social.
Member, International Social of Surgeons. Deputy, Moscow City Soviet. Chief surgeon, USSR Railroads.
Devised artificial leather omosternal oesophagus. Established principles of proctology in USSR. Devised new methods of operating on the liver, gall bladder and mediastinum and surgery for fibrous osteodystrophy, lung cancer and pleurisy.
Founded pathoanatomical museum. Wrote over 100 works on surgical problems, including several monographs.

Member, Communist Party, since 1943.
Views
Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
