After graduate clinical intern, Novo-Yekaterina Hospital. 1911, together with other sci, resigned from Moscow University in protest against policies of Education Minister L. Kasso. 1912-1923 taught at Moscow Higher Women's Courses.
1915-1920 also worked at Traumatological Institute. 1916 resumed duties at Moscow University as associate professor From 1929 head, Neurological Clinic, Institute of Physical Therapy and Orthopedics.
From 1929 also sci director, Experimental Therapy Research Laboratory and head, Chair of Nervous Diseases, 4th, then 3rd, Moscow Medical Institute. Presidium member, Social of Neuropathologists and Psychiatrists. Member, Learned Medical Council, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Health.
Editor and member, ed collegia of several journals. Company-ed, neuropsychiatric section, Bol’shaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya (Large Medical Encyclopedia). Member, All-Union Association of Sciences and Technical Workers for the Promotion of Socialist Construction.
1906 hypothesized the subcortical origin of compulsive actions and muscle-tone disorders. 1912 expounded his biological therapy methods in doctor’s thesis. In same year located the center of active attention and initiative in the frontal lobes and described a number of injury syndromes.
Did original research on diseases of the vegetative nervous system, the diagnosis of nervous diseases and the theory of neuroses. Made extensive studies of neurotraumatism and neurosurgery. Was first specialist in Moscow to use lumbar puncture for diagnosis and treatment.
Devised original method of pneumoencephalography. Also did considerable research on the physical therapy of nervous diseases. Wrote 208 works.
