Studied at Arzamas Theological College, then Nizhniy Novgorod Theological Seminary.
From 1872 taught at municipal public college in Vasil’sursk, then at uyezd college in Ardatov. 1881-1896 inspector of public colleges. Campaigned for expansion of elementary and secondary school syllabus.
Criticized parish schools. Worked for Moscow Literacy Committee. Campaigned for general obligatory elementary educational.
Sponsored foundation of schools for workers and establishment of various extracurricular institutions. His work antagonized some elements in the Moscow Education district. 1896 forced to resign, but continued educational and cultural work.
1898— 1902 lectured on teachers’ training courses in Khorol, Dubny, Kursk, Saratov, etc. Helped organize 1st All-Russian Congress of Students’ Mutual Aid Societies. 1893—1903 worked at school run by Morozova Plant, Tver’.
1903 arrested and exiled to Novgorod Province. Returned to Moscow and resumed lit, teaching and social work, during 1905-1907 Revol helped organize Teachers’ Union. 1913-1914 helped organize All-Russian Congress on Public Education.
1916 helped organize 1st All-Russian Congress of Russian Language Teachers. After 1917 October Revol taught on courses for invaEds, Red Army literacy courses, teachers’ training courses, etc. 1923-1924 lecturer, Teachers’ Training Faculty, 2nd Moscow University.
