Vladimir (Vasiliy Grigorevich Sokolovskiy-Avtonomov) was born on December 31, 1852 in Senkovtsy village, Zolotonosha District, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire (now Poltava, Poltavs'ka Oblast', Ukraine) in the family of the priest.

Vladimir (Vasiliy Grigorevich Sokolovskiy-Avtonomov) was born on December 31, 1852 in Senkovtsy village, Zolotonosha District, Poltava Governorate, Russian Empire (now Poltava, Poltavs'ka Oblast', Ukraine) in the family of the priest.
He graduated from Poltava Theological seminary in 1874 and Kazan Theological Academy in 1878.
In 1878 took monastic vows. He was a bishop of Ostrogozhsk and vicar of Voronezh eparchy from 1891 to 1896. Vladimir came to Voronezh in November 1903 to the bicentennial celebration since the repose of prelate Mitrophane.
He was a bishop of Orenburg and Ural from 1896 to 1903, Yekaterinburg and Irbit from 1903 to 1910. Archbishop since 1921, head of Yekaterinoslav eparchy from 1921 to 1924. Since 1924 lived in Moscow.
He was the author of several missionary works.
