Vasily Aleksandrovich was a navigator of the 5th guards air force regiment (Kalinin front), later - commander of the same regiment (17th air force, South-Western front). By August 1943 he made more than 400 armed sorties, had 163 air combats, which destroyed 34 enemy aircrafts and 19 in the group. Since 1946 Vasily Zaitsev was a Colonel of the reserve for health reasons.
He lived and worked in Kolomna.
