Vasily Efremovich Kolesnichenko was a pilot. By July 1942, made 93 sorties. On January 7, 1942 in the sky over Voronezh in an air battle Kolesnichenko's plane was set on fire. Noticing that one of the German aircraft was going to bomb the Voronezh Mechanical Plant, Kolesnichenko sent a burning plane at him and rammed it. Kolesnichenko managed to land on a parachute, but he died from severe burns and injuries.
He was buried in a mass grave in the park of young naturalists in Voronezh.
