Veronica Professor

Education

Van Heyningen studied Natural Sciences (genetics) at the University of Cambridge, and at Northwestern University. She went to study for a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oxford in early gene mapping studies using somatic cell hybrids, with Walter Bodmer.

Career

She was head of medical genetics at the Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit in Edinburgh and the president of The Genetics Society.

Achievements

She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2010 Birthday Honours. 1993-1998 Howard Hughes Medical Institute International Research Scholar 1999 Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences 2007 Fellow of the Royal Society.
