Ambartsumian, Viktor was born on September 18, 1908 in Tiflis.

Education

Educated at Leningrad University and taught there until 1944.

Career

Thereafter professor at Erevan University. Founder and director of Biurakan Observatory, 1946. Vice-president of the International Astronomical Union, 194855.

President of the International Astronomical Union, 1961-1964. Member of many international scientific bodies, widely known as an outstanding modern specialist in astronomy and astrophysics.

Religion

Religiously inspired people justify violence, resist social changes, and attack on science.

Views

Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.

Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and member and president of the Armenian Academy of Sciences.
