Viktor Sabodan, Russian Orthodox clergyman; Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk.


Sabodan, Viktor was born on November 23, 1935 in Markovtsy, Khmelnitskaia Oblast’, Ukraine. Son of a peasant.


Studied at the Odessa seminary. Graduated from the Leningrad Theological Academy, 1962.


Priest and monk, 1962. Taught at the Odessa seminary, later dean of the seminary. Bishop of Zvenigorod, 1966.

Represented the Russian Orthodox Church in the World Council of Churches in Geneva. Bishop of Chernigov, 1969. Bishop of Dmitrov, dean of the Moscow Theological Academy, 1973.
