1905 participated in revol in Orekhovo-Zuyevo. Member, Orekhovo-Zuyevo Bolshevik Committee and Soviet of Workers' Deputy. 1906 arrested in connection with 1905 rcvol and exiled to Narym Kray for four years.
1907 ascaped from exile. 1907-1908 illegal Party work in Moscow area. 1908-1910 in prison; 1910-1912 again illegal Parly work in Orekhovo-Zuyevo and Moscow.
1912 arrested and exiled to Turukhan Kray. Returned from exile to Moscow. During WW I conscripted into Russian Army, from which he was discharged on medical grounds after 1917 February Rcvol.
From April 1917 chairman Orekhovo-Zuyevo City Bolshevik Committee. Bureau member, Moscow Okrug Bolshevik Committee. August 1917 deleg at 6th Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks) Congress.
From August 1917 chairman, Orekhovo-Zuyevo City Soviet;October 1917 arrived in Moscow at head of a detachment of Red Guards from the Moscow area which played a large role in the Bolshevik victory in Moscow. From January 1918 deputy chairman, Moscow Province Executive Committee and Moscow Province Commissar of Labor. Member, All-Russian Centr Executive Committee of 1918 convocation.
From October 1918 head, 9th Army Polit Department. 1919 member, 8th Army Rcvol Military Council.
