1909 began theater and public work as actor and reader. Helped found and direct first Soviet children’s theater. 1920-1929 chairman. Theater Sections, People’s Commissariat of Education, Moscow Soviet and State Academy of Arts.
1921-1924 head, Theater Board, Moscow Soviet. 1926-1930 director, State Pedagogical Theater. 1933-1937 director, Maly Theater Museum.
1934-1947 head, Ostrovskiy Section, All-Russian Theater Social. 1933-1965 learned consultant, State Centr Theater Museum. Wrote monographs and essays on classics of Russian and world dramaturgy and on leading Russian and Soviet-actors of Maly Theater.
Edited and annotated numerous Soviet ed, among them various collections of Ostrovskiy’s and Griboyedov’s works. Reviewed numerous theater exhibitions. 1913-1965 simultaneously taught at: Moscow Philharmonic Social College.
