Background

Vladimir Gurkin was born on September 13, 1951 in the village of Vasilyevo, Verkhny Gorodokovsky district of the Molotov Region, now the Perm Territory, in the family of a tractor operator.

Education

He studied at the dramatic faculty of the Irkutsk Drama School, which he graduated in 1971.

Career

He worked as an actor in the Irkutsk Youth Theater, served in the Soviet Army, then again worked in the Irkutsk Youth Theater, later (1976-1983) - at the Omsk Drama Theater, Amur Regional Drama Theater (Blagoveshchensk). After the publication and direction of the play "Love and Pigeons", including a TV version in 1984 - in the theater "Contemporary". Since 1993 - the Moscow Art Theater of Chekhov.

In late spring 2010 the playwriter returned to his homeland - in Cheremkhovo. A week before his death, he felt ill, confessed and took communion. His friends moved him to Irkutsk to the regional oncologic dispensary, where Vladimir Pavlovich died of carcinoma of lung. He was buried next to the grave of his father.
