Career
After graduate assistant to Professor I.M. Dogel’. 1902 defended doctor’s thesis on photography of the fundus oculi of animals, in which he described a new method of studying the reaction of the vessels of the retina to various drugs. 1903-1906 worked under H. Thoms in Berlin.
1904-1915 associate professor, from 1915 professor Chair of Pharmacy and Pharmacognostics, Kazan’ University. 1915 co-founder, Kazan' Women's Medical Institute.
1920 co-founder, Kazan' Pharmaceutical Social. From 1921 professor, Chair of Pharmacology and Drug Prescription, Moscow University. 1922 co-founder, Moscow Pharmaceutical Circle.
Also co-founder, Moscow Association of Physiologists, Biochemists, Pharmacologists and Hygienists. From 1925 ed, journal “Vestnik farmatsii”. 1930-1950 head, Chair of Pharmacology, 1st Moscow Medical Institute.
Also lecturer, Kazan’ and Moscow People's University. Founded and held chairs of pharmacology at Smolensk University, 3rd Moscow Medical Institute and Moscow Stomatological and Pharmaceutical Institute. Helped to compile first Soviet pharmacopeia and Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics State Pharmacipeia (3rd ed).
Company-ed, “Tsentral’nyy meditsinskiy zhurnal” and “Bol’shaya meditsinskaya cntsiklopediya” (Large Medical Encyclopedia). Did research on the physiology and pharmacology of the vegetative nervous system. Wrote over 130 works.
