He graduated from the Biology and Soil Faculty of Moscow State University.

He has the highest citation index among all biologists working in Russia.
Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, member of the European Academy, president of the club of Russian members of the European Academy, president of the All-Russian Biochemical Society, chairman of the bioenergy organization of Russia, active member of the Art school.
In March 2017 he became a member of Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.
