Vladimir Alexandrovich Alexandrov got a good home education. He graduated from the Saint Petersburg Vladimir county school (1857). In 1865 he received a certificate for the title of home teacher, in 1868 – a county teacher of the Russian language.
Having become a member of the Saint Petersburg Literacy Committee, formed in 1861, Vladimir Alexandrovich made several trips to the villages of the Vologda province in order to spread the sound method of literacy training. During his trips, he collected a big number of ethnographic materials. Since 1871 Vladimir Alexandrovich taught at the Vladimir county school. Since 1877 – school supervisor of public schools in the Novgorod province, since 1880 – of the St. Petersburg province. Since 1893, file clerk of the Commission at the Ministry of Education for drawing up regulations on two-class and one-class schools; founder of urban and rural schools and teacher courses. Since 1898, the partner of the Saint Petersburg City Council.
