In 1880’s, he wrote for the Moscow magazine "Budilnik". For his participation in the Narodnik movement, he was several times exiled to Arkhangelsk Governorate, Perm, Siberia.
Since 1890 he worked at the railroad, and then at the provincial zemstvo council in Perm. Participated in the founding of the Perm economic society in 1894. In 1895, he was sent to Arkhangelsk, Mezen, Pinega, Shenkursk of Arkhangelsk Governorate for the active public work.
