Vladimir Nikolaevich graduated from Kharkov Agricultural School (now Kharkiv National Agricultural University named after V. V. Dokuchayev) (1893), St. Petersburg Forest Institute (now Saint Petersburg State Forestry University) (1898), natural department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of St. Petersburg University (1902). He was on internship abroad (1903-1908).
Botanist of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden in the Crimea (1908-1913). Employee of the Petrogradsky (Leningrad) Botanical Garden (since 1914), since 1931 - employee of the Botanical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Professor of Petrograd University (1915-1924), Chemical and Formation Institute (1922-1930), Military Medical Academy (1924-1929). At the same time, the head of the department of the Institute of Botany of the Ukrainian SSR Academy of Sciences (since 1929).
Sphere of research interests: plant physiology, light thresholds of photosynthesis. He investigated the phenomenon of photoperiodism. He is the author of more than 250 scientific works, including books: “The Course of General Botany”, “Plant Raw Materials of the USSR”.
