Vladimir Petrovich Skulachev is a Soviet and Russian biochemist, academician of Academy of Sciences of Russia (1991, Academician of Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1990, corresponding member since 1974), Doctor of Biological Sciences.

Education

He graduated from the Biology and Soil Faculty of Moscow State University.

Career

Corresponding member of Academy of Sciences of the USSR on the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Chemistry of Physiologically Active Compounds since November 26, 1974, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Chemistry of Physiologically Active Compounds (Biochemistry) since December 15, 1990.

In March 1992 he was a candidate for the post of rector of Moscow State University. LII Mendeleev Reader - March 14, 1996.

He is an editor-in-charge of academic periodical «Biochemistry», member of the editorial review board of academic periodical «Biophysics», member of the editorial review board of academic periodical «Molecular Biology».

Since 2005, he has been taking charge of the project on creating a geroprotector based on mitochondria-targeted antioxidants.

The author of contributions on oxidative phosphorylation, bioenergetics and the study of mitochondria, gerontology. According to the data from Institute of Scientific Information, ISI Web of Knowledge he is the author of more than 460 articles in academic periodicals. He has the highest citation index among all biologists working in Russia.

Achievements

  • In 2002 he founded the Faculty of Bioengineering and Bioinformatics of Moscow State University and he is its dean up to now.

Membership

Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, member of the European Academy, president of the club of Russian members of the European Academy, president of the All-Russian Biochemical Society, chairman of the bioenergy organization of Russia, active member of the Art school.

In March 2017 he became a member of Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation.
