Vladimir Viktorovich Aksyonov was born on February 1, 1935 in the village of Giblitsy, Kasimov district of the Ryazan region, the RSFSR (now Ryazan', Russian Federation).
In 1949 Vladimir Viktorovich Aksyonov graduated from the seventh grade of the school in the village of Giblitsy. Then he entered the Industrial College in Kasimov, but moved to Kaliningrad near Moscow due to his mother's death. Aksyonov studied at the Mytishchi Machine-Building Technical School, at the 10th Military Aviation School of the initial training of pilots (Vashpol) in the city of Kremenchug and in 1955 he became a cadet of the Chuguev Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots (VVAUL), but in 1956 he was assigned to the reserve. In 1963 he graduated from the All-Union External Polytechnic Institute on the specialty "Technology of machine building, metal-cutting machines and tools," mechanical engineer. On December 30, 1981, he defended his thesis at the Space Research Institute and got his degree in technical engineering sciences.
Before enrolling in a group of cosmonauts, Vladimir Viktorovich Aksyonov worked as a designer of the 3rd, 2nd and 1st category in the 5th department of OKB-1, a design engineer and a senior design engineer. Since October 16, 1964 he worked as a senior engineer in the 90th department, since August 2, 1966 he worked as the head of the group of 732-th department of TsKBEM (OKB-1), since August 7, 1967 – held the same post in the 731st department.
Since August 2, 1968, he became a leading engineer, and since February 23, 1970 - the head of the flight test laboratory of the 731st department of the Central Design Bureau. He was engaged in evaluation, design and experimental development of the compartments of the spacecraft. He practised the activities of astronauts in outer space, including the transition from ship to ship, in conditions of simulated weightlessness and lunar gravity. On the plane-simulator he made 250 flights, 1250 times was under conditions of simulated weightlessness (about 10 hours) and 150 times - under lunar gravity (about 40 min).
Aksyonov was an astronaut TsKBEM, the 4th set. Later he served as a test cosmonaut and as an instructor-cosmonaut-tester of the 2nd class, deputy head of the complex No. 3 of the NPO Energia.
He underwent a medical examination at the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems (IBMP) only at the second attempt. From January 1974 till January 1976 he was trained for the flight on the transport ship 7K-S (11F732) in the crew together with L.Kizim. At the same time he headed a group of civilian flight engineers, who were preparing for this program. From January till June 1976 he was trained as a flight engineer of the first crew on the program for testing the multizonal camera ICF-6 (manufactured in the GDR).
Vladimir Viktorovich Aksyonov realized 2 cosmic flights. During the first flight he worked as a flight engineer of the “Soyuz-22” spacecraft, and during the second one in - as a flight engineer of the “Soyuz T-2” spacecraft (the 6th visiting expedition). The ship was docked with the orbital research and development complex “Salyut-6” – “Soyuz-36".
He left the cosmonaut group in October 1988.
