In 1973 - graduated from the Stavropol Higher Military Aviation School for Pilots and Navigators Air Defense. In 1982 - graduated with honors from the Center for the training of test pilots, Akhtubinsk. In1993 - graduated from the correspondence department of the VVA named after Yu.A. Gagarin. In1997 - graduated from the Academy of National Economy under the Government of the Russian Federation.
January 15, 1993-by order of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation he was appointed to the post of test cosmonaut, senior test pilot of the air force cosmonauts group. On 16 September 1997 by order of the Commander of the air force enlisted in the cosmonaut of the GCTC cosmonaut-investigator (12th set).
