Vozcan Lawrence Parsegian

Background

Mr. Parsegian was born in Armenia on May 13, 1908.

Education

He was educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning his bachelor’s degree in physics in 1933, and his doctorate from New York University in 1948.

Career

For several years Mr. Parsegian worked as a research director for various firms until joining the Atomic Energy Commission in 1950. Beginning in 1954, however, Vozcan Parsegian joined the faculty of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he remained for more than two decades.

In 1965 he saw the publication of his first book, Industrial Management in the Atomic Age, which was followed by The Cybernetic World in 1972. He was also coauthor of Introduction to Natural Science. Born in Armenia, Mr. Parsegian was dedicated to the preservation of Armenian cultural heritage; in 1980 he became director of the Armenian Architecture Archive Project, an enterprise which resulted in the publication of seven volumes on the subject and a CD-ROM product, which was completed just prior to his death.

Achievements

• The first dean of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s School of Engineering, Vozcan Parsegian taught nuclear science and engineering. He was also well known for his works.
