1909-1919 actor, Alexandrine Theater and other Saint St. Petersburg theaters. 1910-1949 taught at Institute of Stagecraft, Leningrad and Lunacharskiy State Institute of Stagecraft, Moscow, et cetera Also did research on history of the Russian theater and folk art
1923 founded Experimented Theater, Petrograd. 1930 founded Ethnographic Theater, Russian Museum, Leningrad.
