He graduated (B.S.) at the Massachusetts State College in 1872.
In practice for a number of years (1880-1925), afterward retired.
In 1875 moved to Minneapolis, where he remained a resident the rest of his life. During the early eighties Mr. Whitney joined the old Western Association of Architects, and after the merger of the Association with the A.I.A he became a Fellow of the Institute in 1890. Also prominent in civic affairs, he served as a Trustee of the Minneapolis Institute of Fine Arts for a number of years.
He was a charter member of the Minnesota Chapter .
