Wakadayū Tokiwazu I was born around 1760.
Though no dates are available records show that when Tokiwazu-Mojidayū I caused trouble in his group by appointing Koshikibu. Kishizawa, his samisen player, due to his reported dissatisfaction with the Sasaki school of samisen players after the demise of its leader Ichizō Sasaki, Wakadayū and Kōhachi Sasaki broke from him and founded the Fujioka school of Tokiwazu-bushi and made great efforts to popularize it, but failed as the school died with its founders.
