Betteridge, Walter Robert was born on December 16, 1863 in Riga, Monroe Company, New York, United States. Son of James and Jane (Johns) Betteridge.

Education

Graduated from State Normal School, Brockport, New York, 1883. Bachelor of Arts, University of Rochester, 1888, A.M., 1892. Rochester Theological Seminary, 1891 (no degree).

Studied university of Göttingen and Berlin, 1895-1896. Studied and traveled in Egypt and Palestine, 1909-1910. (Doctor of Divinity, Rochester, 1906).

Career

Instructor in Hebrew, 1891-1892, assistant professor, 1892-1900. acting professor Hebrew language and literature, 1900-1901. Hoyt professor, since 1901, Rochester Theological Seminary. Librarian, Rochester Theological Seminary, 1901-1913. ordained Baptist ministry, 1892, but never held pastorate.
