Walter Boje was born on November 16, 1905 in Berlin, Germany.
Walter Boje received a diploma in economics (1927) and a doctorate in political economy (1930) from the University of Berlin. He is self-taught in photography.
Walter Boje was an editor of the magazine Leica Fotographie. He taught photography at the Institute for Art Education at the University of Munich (1973-1976) and directed the Famous Photographers School in Munich (1969-1972). From 1964 to 1969 he was co-editor of Photoblätter, and from 1954 to 1978 he taught at the German Institute for Publicity.
Walter Boje belonged to GDL (since 1950), DGPh (since 1956) and Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique (since 1964).
