Walter T. Winslow was born in 1843 in Boston, Massachusetts, United States.
After a public school education he entered the office of Nathaniel J. Bradlee as a student in architecture; later, when the Civil War was over, the young man completed his studies in Paris. Returning to Boston he re-entered Mr. Bradlee's office, and in the course of a few years became his junior partner. In the reconstruction period following the great fire which devastated the business section of Boston in November, 1872, Bradlee & Winslow were active in planning new commercial and public structures.
Following Mr. Bradlee's decease in 1888, he practiced for more than a decade under the name Winslow, Wetherell & Bigelow, and when Mr. Wetherell retired, carried on work in association with Mr. Bigelow. Among the important business and commercial structures of which Mr. Winslow was co-architect should be cited the Hotel Touraine; Tremont Office Building; Board of Trade Building (1900-03); Steinhert and Walker Buildings; Siegel's Department Store on Washington Street; Kimball Office Building; Shreve, Crimp & Low's new store on Tremont Street; Oliver Ditson Company Store; office of Kidder, Peabody & Company, State Street, and the National Shawmut Bank Building.
