Wasil (Bill) Vasillov was born in 1914 in Burwick, Pennsylvania, United States.
Wasil Vasillov served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1940 to 1946, then worked as an assistant to George Platt Lynes in 1950-1955.
His interest in photography pre-dated World War II, and his special interest in Horst B. Horst led to an invitation by Horst to come to Vogue's New York studios, where Wasil Vasillov worked with Irving Penn, Leslie Gill, and eventually Henry Clark. He set up his own fashion photography studio in 1958, which he operated until his death.
