Interpreter for superintendent of Indian affairs on Puget Sound, Washington, Medicine Creek treaty, 1861-1865. Served apprenticeship as compositor and pressman in Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, 1866-1869, reporter Victoria (B.C.) Colonist and Portland (Oregon) Oregonian, 1870. Owner and editor, Monmouth (Oregon) Messenger, 1871-1873.
