Studied law with William T. Rankin, also United States Judge Frank Allyn, 1879-1882. Art education, pupil of John O. Anderson, 1882-1885, Chicago Art Institute, 1885-1886, Corcoran School of Art, 1891-1892, Washington Art Students League, 1893-1897. Private pupil of Howard Helmick.
Killed in line of duty, 1941). Painted and illustrated in Chicago, 1886-1890. With division of illustrations, United States Geological Survey and Bureau American Ethnology, Washington, District of Columbia, 1891-1897.

Lived in Spain until the war, pictures painted there in 30 one man shows, national and other galleries, colleges, clubs in Spain and United States of America. Spent much time in Mexico and Florida Had one-man shows in large galleries of the United States and abroad since 1898. Works shown in exhibitions in the United States and England.
