Education
He studied in Shanghai and Peking before going to England where he first attended Cambridge University and later was graduated from the University of Glasgow, Scotland with Bachelor of Science degree. Then Mr. Ting took postgraduate research work in geology at Freiburg University, Germany, receiving Doctor of Science degree.
Career
Ting Wen-chiang was a director of the bureau of geological survey of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce from 1913 till 1921, managing director of the Peipiao Coal Mining Company, Tientsin, China from 1922 till 1925, Chinese member of the British Boxer Indemnity Advisory Committee in 1924, Resident Director of the Shanghai and Woosung Port Administration under Sun Chuan-fang's regime in 1926, member of the board of trustees of the China Foundation for Promotion of Education and Culture from 1925 till 1935, Secretary-General of the Academia Sinica.
